Best of luck to you in creating a safe work place. I feel so spoiled now. My work place actually asked me to do a queer cultural competency course for them.

yeahh well i already kinda shocked them by announcing i was trans & used he/him pronouns on the first day

then i casually used “Queer” in reference to my cousins/myself during a personal presentation & got pulled aside first thing the next morning

i’m pretty sure most people in this area still see the word “Queer” as derogatory & don’t realize it has been reclaimed as an empowering & inclusive term for a whole community of ppl

trusttt i was quick to explain this to my supervisor but even afterwards she still said i couldn’t use it

i think they’re trying to protect ppl by keeping me from using it but honestly the only possible ppl it could offend in that room (if anyone) would be homophobes who can’t even handle hearing gay or lesbian much less sharing the same space as a transfag such as myself

my co-worker & i are trying to organize some kind of ally training/educational or even just pass out some check yr language/privilege resources cuz the “cultural diversity” training we received did nothing to educate these ppl

we just gotta be careful about it cuz we are also the 2 youngest trainees & the govt can fire you for anything esp since we’re still on probation :/

starting week 2 of my new job

trying to be as smart as i can about how i carry myself in this space which seems to be slowly pushing me out

so fucking grateful there’s another queer mujer in my training class who knows exactly where i’m coming from & wants to help educate & create a safe space for our community
